Fatima

Fatima was a Luxemburg border town and the birthplace of Lucien Alvaro de Castillon. Its annexation by King Aldric of Lachsenhausen in 1228 — and the burning of the Castillon family home — set the events of The Avari in motion.

History

Fatima’s border position made it a target for King Aldric of Lachsenhausen’s territorial expansion. Rather than invade directly, Aldric instigated civil unrest in the town to manufacture justification for a military march-in.

In 1228, orchestrated riots escalated into widespread violence. Soldiers moved in under the pretext of restoring order and effectively annexed the town. Homes were burned during the suppression. The Castillon family home was burned with Lucien Alvaro de Castillon’s parents inside. Lucien escaped.
