Castillon Rift

The Castillon Rift is a massive volcanic fissure on the Vulcan Islands, formed in 1365 by the death of Elias Castillon and the explosive release of his share of the Curse of Ravana. It is the resting place of the fifth share of the Curse of Ravana and, ultimately, of Elias Castillon himself.

Type: Volcanic rift Era: 1365–present Location: Vulcan Islands, far southeast of Luxemburg Formed: 1365, by Elias Castillon's death

History

1365: Elias Castillon, hiding on the Vulcan Islands after his father's murder, was tracked there by Severin Falkenrath. Rather than allow the transfer of his share, Elias threw himself from the cliff into a volcanic fissure below. The Curse of Ravana energy released on impact, causing a catastrophic volcanic event that dramatically expanded the fissure into the Castillon Rift — a permanently active rift of fire and lava. Severin arrived too late. The fifth share entered the earth. The same cataclysm raised Chunk Err, the steep cliffside to the west of the islands.

1365 onward: The fifth share became increasingly integrated into the volcanic land over centuries. Each Neutron NRG extraction attempt caused progressive environmental damage — pulling at energy threaded through the foundations of the islands and the broader world.

~21st century: Severin Falkenrath's final extraction attempt pulled him into the earth rather than drawing the energy out. He fused with the land. All five shares of the Curse of Ravana are now in the ground.

~2300: The land of Lichdenstein sits above all five shares of the Curse of Ravana and the remains of Severin Falkenrath.

Notes

The Castillon Rift is a landmark — not the sole location of the entrenched energy. The energy spread throughout the land and environment of the Vulcan Islands and beyond. Is the rift visibly active in the modern era, or has it settled? Do the resort visitors know what it is?
